Uzbekenergo state joint-stock company completed constructing the external power supply facilities of Zarmitan gold mining complex - a new raw material base of the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine, a source in "Uzbekenergo" told Trend today.

Two substations were built in the Samarkand region - "Ishtyhan" with a capacity of 220 kW and "Mining" with a capacity of 110 kV with a high voltage transmission line with a length of 86.4 km within the project worth $34.2 million.

The substations were constructed for the uninterrupted supply of electricity to a gold-mining complex, which is based on the fields Zarmitan, Guzhumsay, Promejutochnoye and Karakutan in Samarkand region.

The project was financed by Uzbekenergo's own funds.

It was previously reported that the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine has gradually implementing the project since 2006 to develop the Zarmitan zone. The total project cost is approximately $ 330 million.

The project includes constructing a mining complex, including expanding a mine on the Zarmitan field, constructing mines in the Guzhumsay and Promejutochnoye fields, as well as a gold prospecting unit.

The project was financed by the complex's own funds.

One million tons of ore will be involved in processing within the first phase, the second - 1.4 million tons, the third - 1, 8 million tons of ore. According to the preliminary data, the output of the gold mined in the fields of Zarmitan zone will be about 10 tons.

It is planned to complete the project by 2012.

According to the Uzbek State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources, stocks of Zarmitan and Guzhumsay deposits are estimated at 20 million tons of ore with average grade of 10 grams per ton.

Navoi Mining is one of the major gold producers in Central Asia. The plant is fully owned by the state. The main gold-ore base of the enterprise is the Muruntau field (Central Kyzyl Kum). The plant includes two gold extracting plants - GMZ-2 in Zeravshan and GMZ-3 in Uchkuduk. NMMC is exclusive operator for the extraction, enrichment and export of uranium in Uzbekistan.
