U.S. dollar traded at 20,160 rials in Iran

U.S. dollar was sold at 20,160 rials in Iran's unofficial market on Wednesday. Each old-type gold coin was also sold at 7.48 million rials, Mehr News Agency reported.

On Wednesday, U.S. dollar was sold at 19,940 rials in Iran's unofficial market on Wednesday. Each Azadi gold coin was also sold at 7.45 million rials.

Each ounce of gold was priced at $1603 in international markets, which is $12 less than it was on Wednesday at $1615.

Euro and pound were sold at 24,760 rials and 31,560 rials, respectively, while yesterday Euro and pound were sold at 24,620 rials and 31,310 rials.

The Central bank of Iran allowed trading in its currency at market levels after fixing the exchange rate in January as the threat of sanctions over the country's nuclear program and economic risks spurred Iranians to buy up dollars.

On Jan.26 the bank fixed the rate at 12,260 after the U.S. dollar surged to almost double that level in unofficial currency markets.
