Uzbekistan plans to attract ADB loan for modernization of energy supply to Ferghana Valley

Uzbekistan plans to attract the loan of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the amount of $150 million for the project to ensure the reliability of electricity supply in Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions, located in the Fergana Valley in the east, the representative of the State Joint-Stock company (AMC) Uzbekenergo told Trend on Tuesday.

In April of this year, ADB provided a grant worth $850,000 to Uzbekenergo for preparation of the feasibility study of this project, the source said.

The project with estimated cost of $188 million includes construction of a Namangan substation with capacity of 500 kW in 2013-2015 with two 501 MVA autotransformers, as well as high-voltage lines (HVL) New Angren TPP - Namangan.

The Uzbek side is represented by Uzbekenergo will provide $38 million for the project.

It is expected that the management of the ADB will consider a request for a loan of Uzbekistan in October.

Uzbekistan previously planned to attract loan funds from the Chinese Exim Bank for the modernization of HVL.

At the end of 2008 Uzbekenergo commissioned the 500 kV transmission line, New Angren TPP - SS Uzbekistanskaya with length of 169 kilometers.
