Uzbekistan to start mass production of buses of its own design

Samarkand automobile plant (JSC SamAvto) plans to begin mass production of 8 meters length low-floor city bus Samauto LE 60 of its own design, the management of the enterprise told Trend on Thursday.

Designing of Samauto LE 60 bus for up 65 passengers and the total weight of 9.8 tones is carried out by experts of SamAvto together with the Russian JSC Engineering company Ermis (Omsk).

The new bus model will be equipped with German Deutz diesel engine with a rear transverse arrangement, gearbox ZF, rear axle and front suspension of the Hungarian RABA, brake Belgian WABCO.

Originally the management of the plant intended to launch the automobile production in the third quarter of 2010, then it was postponed until 2011. The initial capacity of SKD- assembly was planned in the volume of 500 cars a year. The size of the investment in the project isn't specified.

As previously reported, in May 2010 Uzavtosanoat and Mercedes-Benz Buses Central Asia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, have signed an agreement to establish joint venture for the production of buses on the chassis of Mercedes-Benz.

It was planned to organize the production of buses with designed capacity of 600 units per year at unused areas of the state aviation association TAPOiCH.

The authorized capital of the JV MB Central Asia was announced in amount of $8 million. Shares of the founders of the joint venture are - Mercedes-Benz Buses Central Asia GmbH and AK Uzavtoprom - amount to 51 and 49 percent respectively. The cost of the project was estimated at $31 million.

The first buses should be commissioned in September 2010. However, the production of buses has not been started. oint Stock Company (JSC) Uzavtoprom and the German Daimler AG have not reached agreement on a joint venture.
