As of August 6, Azerbaijan harvested 2.59 million tons of autumn and spring grain crops, which exceeds the figure for the same period last year by 13.4 percent, the Azerbaijani ministry of agriculture said on Wednesday.
During the reporting period of 995,890 hectares of cultivated area (an increase over the year by 6.7 per cent), 984,340 hectares (an increase of 6.3 per cent) were processed.
The yield of grain crops as a whole has grown over the year from 24.7 to 26.4 quintals per hectare (an increase of 6.9 per cent).
As of August 6, the country harvested 1.84 million tons of wheat, which is higher than the same period last year by 12.2 percent. Yields of this crop for the year rose from 25.1 to 26.9 quintals per hectare.
If last year the country harvested about 2.5 million tons of grain crops, this year the Ministry of Agriculture expects to harvest at least 2.7 million tons.
