Construction of the Tbilisi-Rustavi motorway, which will be extended to the border with Azerbaijan, has started.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili stated about the start of construction. He said the new motorway will allow getting from Rustavi to Tbilisi for seven minutes.
About 2,000 people will be involved in the construction of the highway.
Construction of a 17-kilometer section, which will connect Tbilisi with Rustavi, will be completed in two years. One part of the road will be asphalt and concrete, and another - cement-concrete.
In the future the motorway will be extended to the border with Azerbaijan, and modern highway will link Baku with the Georgian Batumi in the future.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is in charge with the construction of highway. The construction is funded by the Municipal Development Fund, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the government of Georgia.
Estimated operation life of the highway is 32 years.
