The European Commission has published a service procurement notice for a TRACECA project called 'TRACECA maritime safety and security II' covering Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, ENPI reported on Wednesday.

The overall objective is to support the further ratification and implementation of international maritime safety and security conventions as well as improving the level of quality of maritime administrations in the Black and Caspian Sea partner countries, with the overall objective of making shipping safer, more secure and environmentally friendly. This should promote the further alignment of the maritime safety and security legislation with the relevant EU acquis in the field and especially with the EU's third maritime safety package.

Despite being a regional project, the programme should also focus on specific needs at national level of each beneficiary country by taking into account the level of improvement of the maritime administration in past years and keeping in mind the different bilateral assistance rendered to some beneficiary countries.

The main areas of activity of the project will be: regional coordination, flag state implementation, safety of navigation, protection of the marine environment, the human element, security of ships and ports, and visibility and communication.

The project will run for 36 months.

The deadline for getting applications is September 11, 2012 at 16:00 Central European Time.
