The exports of Iranian gas will not suffer because of the Trans-Anatolia Pipeline (TANAP), managing director of National Iranian Gas Export Company, Hossein Bidarmaghz said, Mehr reported.

TANAP is a proposed Azerbaijan-Turkish project which envisages a construction of pipeline from the eastern border of Turkey to the country's western border.

Bidarmaghz noted that the initial capacity of the pipeline is expected to be 16-20 billion cubic meters a year.

"Iran has several ways of exporting its gas, and TANAP pipeline is not considered dangerous to country's exports," Bidarmaghz said.

Speaking of a possibility of Turkmenistan joining TANAP, Bidarmaghz noted that it would not be possible.

"Iran and Russia will not allow a pipeline to be built through Casian Sea, for ecology reasons," Bidarmaghz explained. "Therefore the only way Turkmenistan can export its gas to TANAP is through Iran."

The TANAP project is interested in Turkmen gas, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet said today referring to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.

Azerbaijan and Turkey signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP) on June 26.
