Uzbekistan approves feasibility study on introduction of electricity meters system

President of Uzbekistan approved the feasibility study on introduction of the automated system of accounting and control of electricity consumption in the three regions of the country, representative of State Joint-Stock Company (SJC) Uzbekenergo told Trend on Monday.

President of Uzbekistan approved the feasibility study on introduction of the automated system of accounting and control of electricity consumption in the three regions of the country, representative of State Joint-Stock Company (SJC) Uzbekenergo told Trend on Monday.

According to the feasibility study, the project worth $207.4 million provides the purchase and installation of one million electricity meters in 0.4 kV networks of consumers in three regions of the country - Bukhara, Jizzakh and Samarkand. Project implementation period is three years.

The source noted that Uzbekenergo plans to announce a tender for the selection of suppliers of equipment in the near future and to begin the active phase of the project in early 2013.

The project is financed through a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the amount of $150 million, and own funds of Uzbekenergo - $25.2 million. The government provides $32.2 million in the form of tax and customs privileges for the project.

ADB loan was granted in February this year from the ordinary resources of the Bank with a maturity of 25 years, including a five-year grace period.
