Share of population with income less than cost of living reduces in Kazakhstan

According to the survey, the share of the population with income less than the cost of living was 4.1 percent (687,500 people) in Kazakhstan in the second quarter of 2012 or 1.8 percentage points less than in the corresponding period of the previous year, the Kazakh Statistics Agency said today.

According to the survey, the share of the population with income less than the cost of living was 4.1 percent (687,500 people) in Kazakhstan in the second quarter of 2012 or 1.8 percentage points less than in the corresponding period of the previous year, the Kazakh Statistics Agency said today.

According to the information, the share of the population in rural area with income less than the cost of living, exceeded the share of the population with low income in urban areas by three times and hit 6.4 percent (487,300 people).

"The largest share of the population with income less than the cost of living in the second quarter of 2012 falls to Zhambyl (7.6 percent), South Kazakhstan (6.9 percent) and North Kazakhstan (5.9 percent) regions," the report said. "The lowest share of the population with income less than the cost of living is observed in Almaty (0.5 percent) and Astana (1.1 percent), Karaganda and Aktobe regions (2.6 percent)."
