Azerbaijani foreign trade surplus hits $10 bln

The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee has announced the results of foreign trade operations conducted with 146 world countries in January-August 2012, the committee told Trend on Saturday.

The total volume of trade turnover of the country amounted to $21.84 billion, which is 7.6 percent less than in the same period of last year.

The surplus worth $9.81 billion was formed in foreign trade operations.

Around 7,276 legal and physical entities were involved in foreign trade operations over this period, of which 3,381 are legal entities and 3,895 physical entities.

The export operations totaled $15.83 billion for the first eight months of 2012, or 11.07 percent less compared to the same period of 2011.

The share of public sector in exports totaled $14.96 billion (94.52 percent), private - $ 768.34 million (4.85 percent), the share of physical entities - $94.36 million (0.6 percent).

As of January-August 2012, imports amounted to $6.02 billion, or 2.96 percent more compared to the same period of 2011.

The share of public sector in import operations amounted to $1.21 billion (20.1 percent), private sector - $4.53 billion (75.28 percent) and physical entities - $278.73 million (4.64 percent).

As of January-August, around 1,881 goods were exported from Azerbaijan, while 5,854 goods were imported.
