Wheat and flour imports exempt from VAT in Azerbaijan

The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan took a decision to exempt imported wheat, maslin (mixed wheat and rye), wheat flour and wheat-rye flour from VAT for a period of one year, website of the Cabinet of Ministers reports on Tuesday.

According to the government's decision, changes were made to the previous decision of the Cabinet of Ministers "On the list of goods imported into Azerbaijan and are exempt from VAT".

The decision was taken based on agreed proposals of Ministries of Economic Development, Agriculture, Emergency Situations, Finance, Tax and the State Customs Committee.

The decision shall take effect from the date of signature on Sept.24, 2012.
According to Department for Control over Production and Processing Crop Products head Sabir

Veliyev, the decision meets interests of both suppliers and consumers.
"The government's move will allow to prevent rise in price of flour and bread," Veliyev told Trend.

If last year the country collected about 2.5 million tons of crops, this year the Agriculture Ministry expects collecting at least 2.8 million tons.

As of July 23, about 2.41 million tons of autumn and spring crops were gathered in Azerbaijan, or 9.36 per cent more than the same period of last year. The country gathered 1.69 million tons of wheat which is 4.4 per cent more than in the same period last year.
