He said the transition of railway track over Azerbaijan and Georgia to a narrower one through Turkey according to European standards has to be provided for the launch of the Baku Tbilisi Kars railway line.

"The carriages will have a suitable mechanism which will enable this kind of changeover to take place," Azmamedov noted.

"Freight carriages also have to be purchased for the new railway line, but exceptional passenger carriages are going to be purchased from the Swiss company," Azmamedov noted.

Stadler Rail is a producer of rail and special carriages, trams and shunting locomotives. The company has plants in Switzerland, Germany, Poland and other countries. Its rolling stock is used in 13 world countries.

The 183 kilometre long railway section of the Akhalkalaki Marabda Tbilisi rail road has to be reconstructed in the framework of Baku Tbilisi Kars project in order to increase the capacity up to 15 million tons of freight a year. A centre on the carriage transition from Georgian track to European is going to be constructed in Akhalkalaki.

Baku Tbilisi Kars will enable the flow of container, liquid and other types of freights from Asia to Europe. The realisation of the Marmaris project on construction of a tunnel beneath the Bosporus will enable the launch of transportation to Europe to be completed
