Iran plans to give a boost to its non-oil exports in the second half of the current Iranian calendar year which ends on March 20, 2013, said Mohammad-Reza Izadian the Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran's (TPOI) director for planning affairs.
The total value of Iran's non-oil imports and exports during the first half of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20 amounted to $47.1 billion, according to the Customs Administration data.
Iran exported around 37.45 million tons of goods worth $20.62 billion and imported some 19.12 million tons of goods, worth $26.48 billion in the six-month period, the data said, the Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.
Iran exported around $43.7 billion worth of non-oil goods in the previous (calendar) year and imported some $61.8 billion worth of goods, to hit the unprecedented mark of $105 billion in annual trade.
On August 5, the Iranian finance and economic affairs minister said Iran conducted economic transactions with 150 countries in the last calendar year.
Shamseddin Hosseini said Iran continues trading with the world at a time when certain countries are trying to put hurdles in front of its economic progress, the minister said.
Iran's annual trade turnover is projected to reach $160 billion by the end of the fifth five-year development plan (March 2016), a TPOI official said in May.
Kiyumars Fathollah Kermanshahi added that the value of annual imports and exports are planned to reach $77 billion and $83 billion respectively by 2016.
