Iran will take all the necessary measures to help former oil minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari win the position of the secretary general of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Iran's OPEC Governor Mohammad-Ali Khatibi said.

"Four member states have so far introduced their nominees for the post. All the necessary measures have been taken to support Nozari. This is a competition and he has the equal chance among others," Khatibi said.

On September 4, Khatibi said that OPEC will evaluate contenders for its top post in late October.

When OPEC does meet this fall, Iran plans to get the votes it needs for its own nominee, former oil minister, Gholam-Hossein Nozari.

Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Ecuador have introduced candidates for the post too.

Meanwhile, another former Oil Minister, Masoud Mirkazemi, put Iran's changes for winning the Secretary General's post at "about 100 percent" and said a strong Secretary General will be able to keep oil prices and production at an acceptable level.
