Construction material costs up by 55 % in Iran

Within the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 20, the construction material costs in Iran has increased by 55.11 percent, compared to the same period previous year.

The figure also shows 32.08 percent rise in comparison to the second half of the previous calendar year, the Mehr News Agency reported.

On October 9, the Head of Iran's Society of Mass Housing Builders, Iraj Rahbar reported that the price for steel has doubled within just few weeks.

"The cement price has also increased by 20 percent," Rahbar said.

"The rise in construction material costs results in the increase in housing prices," he explained.

A number of Iranian newspapers reported in June that house rents increased by 50 percent in Iran compared to the past year.

According to the reports. neither imperative nor encouraging policies have been successful in curbing the rent prices.

"To control the housing prices, we should both increase supply and curb unofficial dealings," a member of the Iranian High Council for Housing stated.
