The International Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which is taking place in Baku is very important because it is multistate holder perspective, Google Vice President Vinton G. Cerf said at the press conference in Baku on Thursday.
"It is multistate holder perspective that we are making visible here," Cerf said.
He stressed that it is particularly important that the forum is being held in Azerbaijan, because the country is the area of development.
"I want the world to understand that the Internet is not confined to the what we tipically called developed world. It is rapidly growing in other places, even here especially," he said.
According to Cerf, Internet is the opportunity for anyone in the world to contribute applications and content, and it is the sharing of the world's knowledge which is powerful.
He added that not information, but the information sharing is the power.
IGF is being held in Baku within the International Telecommunications Exhibition BakuTel-2012 on November 6-9.
The forum is attended by around a thousand delegates from over a hundred countries, including representatives of government agencies, private sector, civil society and the Internet community, international organizations and others
The main purpose of the forum is to bring together various stakeholders, to discuss public policy issues on regulation of the Internet space.
The forum discusses issues on providing public information, placing information of government agencies in the public domain and prospects for development of new products and services. The forum will also cover the use and distribution of IPv6 protocol, management of internet-resources, top-level domains (TLDs) and Internationalized Domain Name System (IDNs).
