Azerbaijan should consider all possibilities for cooperation with Gulf countries

It is important for Azerbaijan to consider all the existing possibilities for cooperation with Gulf countries, general director of the London International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) John Chipman.

"Azerbaijan may consider the prospects for cooperation in the financial services sector not only with the countries of the Gulf, but also to establish relations with such countries as Qatar, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei, given the growing interest in Islamic banking" Chipman said.

He noted that Azerbaijan already has banks established on the Western model, but offering Islamic financial products and there is space and opportunities for the development of Islamic banking in the country.

Chipman participates in V Baku International Banking Conference of CIS "Financial markets of the CIS: new opportunities and global risks".

The conference discussed issues of improving the stability of the financial markets of the CIS in the ongoing global economic crisis, the new possibilities of interaction with the adoption of the Free Trade Area of ​​the CIS, the introduction of alternative financial products and advanced technologies, the development of Islamic banking in the CIS, the ability to raise funds in order to exercise development programs of the Commonwealth.
