There is great potential for expanding trade relations and mutual investments between Azerbaijan and Belgium, Belgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Luc Truyens told Trend today.

"Azerbaijan has great demand and high purchasing power," he said. "Belgium may offer quality products. The consistent increase in trade turnover is its result. There is a great potential to increase bilateral trade and investments. Of course, we would like to increase the figures and there are opportunities for this. We see the presence of the Belgian business in Azerbaijan, for example, in the construction sector."

He said that opening SOCAR's representative office in Brussels is a good example of cooperation.

"Belgian investors in Azerbaijan show interest in health care, pharmaceuticals, construction, environmental issues, tourism, information and communication technologies and other areas," he said.

The Ambassador also stressed Azerbaijan's important role in ensuring the energy security of Europe.

According to the State Customs Committee, Azerbaijan's imports from Belgium totaled $32.38 million, exports to this country - $2.24 million in January-September.
