Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine of Uzbekistan completes BIOX construction

Uzbek Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine (NMMC) has completed the construction of a gold mining complex that is worth about $210 million and uses BIOX Technology, a source in government circles told Trend.

The first component of the complex, a hydrometallurgical plant in Uchkuduk (HMP-3) was put into operation in late 2009. It includes a gold processing plant, which uses BIOX technology with a capacity of three million tons of ore a year.

The second component of the complex uses Daugyztau pre-ore concentration technology with a capacity of two million tons per year and was put into operation in late 2010.

According to specialists, NMMC will reach its design capacity, the ability to process five million tons of ore and it will be able to produce up to 20 tons of gold annually in the first half of 2013.

NMMC is a major producer of gold and is a monopoly uranium producer in Uzbekistan. Gold production at NMMC in recent years has been at more than 60 tons with the total production of the metal in the country at about 90 tons.

The industrial complex of NMMC includes four metallurgical plants: in Navoi (HMP -1), Zarafshan (HMP -2), Uchkuduk (HMP -3) and Zarmitane (HMP -4, Samarkand region).
