According to the Turkmen media, a large textile complex worth $120 million equipped by leading European manufacturers is being commissioned in the Ruhabat, Akhal district in central Turkmenistan.

Information refers to a speech by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow given during a government session.

"Putting the complex into operation will lead to an annual production of over 20 million square metres of different fabrics and 40 million square metres of dyed fabrics," Turkmen leader said.

Gosinformsluzhba Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary cites a quotation by Berdimuhamedov that production of previously unproduced fabrics would reduce the amount of imports as well as expenditures in the currency for their delivery. Opening and commissioning of the complex will create more than 700 new jobs.

According to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, 'Simultaneous commissioning of two major industrial facilities, weaving and dyeing factories that marked the successful implementation of a unique project on the construction of the Ruhabat textile complex producing mixed and coloured cotton fabrics is an important step in addressing the state goals on a further increase of the amount of production of new types of domestic products and exports of finished textiles'.

In October 2010 commissioning of the first structural unit, the Ruhabat factory producing products qualitatively new to the country such as mixed yarn of cotton and polyester in various combinations, marked the start of building the complex.

The textile industry in Turkmenistan is developing on the basis of an increase in domestic cotton wool processing. Approximately 1.2 million tons of raw cotton was harvested this year.

According to the adopted Development Programme in Turkmenistan, by 2020 each factory area in the country will be equipped with refining capacities.
