The Eurasian region is of vital importance in restoring the historic Silk Road which will boost global economic development, Turkish President Abdullah Gul was quoted today by TV channel TRT Haber as saying.

The Eurasian region is of vital importance in restoring the historic Silk Road which will boost global economic development, Turkish President Abdullah Gul was quoted today by TV channel TRT Haber as saying.

The new Silk Road is aimed at creating a developed and extensive area of trade and transit relations between South and Central Asia and Europe. In total, around 28 countries must participate in the project. The total length of the new transport artery often called as the Silk Railroad, will extend to 81,000 kilometres.

According to the president, the Eurasian region which is full of economic opportunities will be the region predetermining the future of the whole world giving a direction to its economy and geopolitics.

"The Eurasian region is full of opportunities for cooperation in the field of energy, economy, transport and security," he said. "Countries of the region must make every effort to realise the real potential of cooperation in the region."
