Kazakhstan decreased steel production in 2012

Some 3.770 million tons of crude steel (21.6 percent decrease compared to the same period of 2011) were produced in Kazakhstan in January-December 2012, the Kazakh Statistics Agency reported.

Ferroalloys production in the reporting period hit 1.724 million tons (3.3 percent increase), flat section - 2.373 million tons (23.6 percent decrease), galvanized steel - 464.046 tons (22.9 percent decrease). Tin and tinned steel sheet production decreased by 28.7 percent to 147.383 tons.

In January-December 2012 Kazakhstan produced 52.577 million tons of iron ore (1.6 percent increase compared to the same period of 2011).

Extraction of copper ore reached 38.353 million tons (11.5 percent increase), copper-zinc ore - 4.806 million tons (14.6 percent), lead-zinc - 7.704 million tons (5.8 percent increase).
