Some 417 criminal cases on tax evasion filed in Azerbaijan in 2012

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Taxes filed 417 criminal cases in 2012 or 107 cases less than during the previous year, the ministry said on Thursday.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Taxes filed 417 criminal cases in 2012 or 107 cases less than during the previous year, the ministry said on Thursday.

Around 213 cases were filed as a result of tax audits, 193 - in connection with non-payment of tax arrears, six for the sale of goods without excise stamps.

Some 87 indictments in respect to 91 people were submitted to the courts.

Some 293 criminal cases were closed during this period. A preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen in respect of 18 people.

Some 199 people were released from criminal liability in connection with taxes fully paid by the heads of several companies and physical entities, who previously avoided from payment.

Around 15.14 million Manat were transferred to the state budget as a result of the criminal case investigation.

The property worth 3.302 million Manat was seized upon three criminal cases.

Some 45 people on the wanted list were handed over to the investigative department of the preliminary tax crime investigation department under the ministry and arrested as a result of operative-investigative activities.

Around 279 people avoiding the preliminary investigation were forcibly taken to the office. Around 58 individuals were brought to the investigation. The location of 282 people was revealed.

Moreover, some 913 taxpayers avoiding tax audits have been found and handed over to tax bodies. The figure exceeds the index for 2011 by 633 people.
