Iran’s fishery exports amount to $145 million in nine months

Iran exported about 36,000 tons of fishery products, worth around $145 million during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-December 20, 2012), ISNA quoted State Fishery Organisation official Issa Golshahi as saying.

Exports rose by 17 per cent compared to the same period in the preceding year, he noted.

Fishery exports stood at $123 million in the previous calendar year, he added.

He referred to Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, as the main buyers of Iranian fishery products.

In November, 2012, the Mehr News Agency quoted Golshahi as saying that Iran had exported over $112 million worth of fish products since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20.

He added that 27,521 tons of fish products have been exported to U.S., Canada, Australia, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Kuwait, the UAE, Lebanon, Vietnam, China, and South Korea.

Some 250 kilogrammes of caviar has also been exported during the same period, he noted.

In October, the deputy agriculture minister said the value of exports of Iran's fishery sector will surpass $350 million in the current calendar year.

"Exports stood at $210 million last year," Gholamreza Razeqi said, IRNA reported.

Some 4000 tons of shrimp valued at around $17 million was exported last year to the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Australia and Spain, he said, adding that infrastructures have been provided to export 500 kilogrammes of caviar in the current year.
