Iran's Foreign Exchange Center has had some difficulties in providing highly requested currencies, the center's spokesman Samad Karimi said on Tuesday.
Currently the most popular currency is the euro, while requests for dollar have nearly hit zero, Karimi said.
Karimi said last week that in recent months, requests for imported goods with local currencies have been increased.
Deputy director of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran said last week that that Iran may decide to launch new forex centres in other provinces.
The Central Bank of Iran announced that it may approve the launch of new foreign exchange centers in major provinces to facilitate the process of buying dollar for importers, the ISNA News Agency quoted Kioumars Fathollah Kermanshahi as saying.
The Iranian Economy and Finance Minister Shamseddin Hosseini also said on January 14 that Iran plans to omit the dollar and euro from its economic transactions in the future and rely on local currencies for trade.
Private companies have received the suggestion well, Hosseini added.
He went on to note that following US-generated sanctions, the Central Bank of Iran shifted its foreign exchange reserves into euros and gold which proved to be very profitable.
