A new airport complex, Central Asia's largest, will be built in Ashgabat and completed in 2017, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said today.

The project, developed by the Turkish Polimeks includes the construction of a terminal with segregated VIP accommodation and the capacity to serve 1,600 passengers per hour as well as cargo. A 3,800 meter runway and reconstruction of the existing terrestrial infrastructure is also planned.

An office for aircraft maintenance and a service center for three types of "Boeing" aircraft will be built in the vicinity of existing hangars.

According to the article, the construction of the new airport in Turkmenabat, the provincial capital of Lebap will be launched in 2013. The terminal will be able to serve up to 500 passengers per hour.

The Ukrainian company Altcom will begin constructing a 3,800 meter artificial runway.
A control tower will be constructed. An automatic meteorological information system, air navigation, radio, lamp signaling equipment of the leading companies will be installed.

A new airport in Atamurat capable of serving 100 passengers per hour is slated for construction this year.

A new 3,800 meter runway and a dozen other airfield facilities will be built at Dashoguz airport.

Turkmenistan has already put into operation a new airport complex in the city of Turkmenbashi capable of serving up to 800 passengers hourly. According to international standards, an automated air traffic control center to control transit aircraft has been built.
