The growth of the economy was 4.5 percent in Kazakhstan as of 2012, Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov informed President Nursultan Nazarbayev today, the presidential press service reported.

"As of January, the country's economic growth was 4.5 percent," Akhmetov said. "Some indices declined in the manufacturing industry. This is connected with a decrease in world prices and needs. In general, all sectors of the country began this year with positive indices."

According to the press-service, the Kazakh President drew attention to the need for constant control and monitoring of issues regarding socio-economic development, and further maintaining GDP growth rates.

"It is necessary for the enterprises commissioned last year within the forced industrial-innovative development program to start operating at planned capacity," the president said. "This will significantly affect the future growth of the economy."

Akhmetov also reported about adopting a new program of developing the agro-industrial complex for 2013-2020, aimed at improving the competitiveness of agriculture and food security.

Moreover, Akhmetov informed the Kazakh president about the preparations for the Expo 2017 exhibition in Astana and said that the issue is under constant control of the government.
