Iran produced over 265.44 million square meters of tiles and ceramics in the first eleven months of the current Iranian calendar year, an official with the ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade said on Wednesday. The current calendar year in Iran began on March 20, 2012.
The amount shows a 5.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the IRNA News Agency quoted Mohammad Fatemian as saying.
Output hit 25.86 million square meters in the eleventh month of the Iranian year (January 20 - February 18) which is 6.9 percent more than the previous year's figure of 24.2 million square meters, he added.
According to the Head of the Tile Producers and Sellers Union, Mostafa Goudarzi, 80 per cent of Iran's tile and ceramics products are exported to Iraq.
He said that Afghanistan and Uzbekistan are other destinations for Iranian-made products.
He added that some $270 million worth of tiles were exported last year.
