By 2030, Baku Metro is going to construct 50 new stations, an article of the head of Baku Metro Tagi Ahmadov published in Respublika newspaper on Tuesday says.

According to the article, work on the construction of eight stations and two depots is currently underway.

"Avtovokzal and Memar Ajami 2 subway stations are planned to be commissioned next year," the head of Baku Metro said in the article.

He added there are plans to complete the construction of a tunnel from Hazi Aslanov station to the suburb of Yeni Guneshli in 2016.

At present, the length of Baku Metro lines is 34.6 kilometres and now has two lines. In future the number of subway lines is planned to be increased to five, the overall length up to 119 kilometres and the number of stations up to 76.

The metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations. A 20-year programme for the development of the metro was adopted earlier.
