Kazakh-Swiss joint ventures on tantalum deposit development can only work in Africa, a Kazatomprom national company senior representative said in an interview with Trend on condition of anonymity.

"Tantalum deposits are in Africa," he said. "If a Kazakh-Swiss joint venture is established, the matter rests in the joint work in Africa, rather than in Kazakhstan. This issue will be put under discussion."

It was previously reported that Swiss economy minister Johann Schneider-Ammann will pay an official visit to Astana this week. The first meeting of the Kazakh-Swiss Business Council will be held in the capital, the Kazakh Chamber of Commerce said.

The participants intend to discuss the possibility of creating joint ventures on tantalum deposit development and constructing the processing facilities.

Chairman of Kazatomprom's board Vladimir Shkolnik is a co-chairman of the Business Council from the Kazakh side and Stadler Rail Group president and owner Peter Spuhler is representing the Swiss side.
