The re-establishment of relations with the United States is an election promise made by an Iranian presidential candidate from the Reformist camp, Mostafa Kavakebian.
Kavakebian said that he'll restore diplomatic ties with the US within a year, if he makes his way to the presidential office in the upcoming election, the ISNA News Agency reported.
The 51-year-old hopeful also says he will do his best to remove the crippling sanctions imposed by western countries on Iran.
Economic prosperity as well as sweeping administrative reforms are among other promises made by the former member of parliament.
