Azerbaijan demonstrates all the signs of sustained economic growth and has great potential, WB vice-president for external affairs Cyril Muller told media today.
"I have known Baku for many years," he said at the eleventh conference of the IMF and WB parliamentary network in Baku. "I was one of the first representatives of the World Bank who arrived in the country after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Azerbaijan has passed along an incredible route of development since gaining independence."
Mueller said that such events allow parliamentarians worldwide to discuss current problems and try to find a way to solve them. These discussions promote economic growth and comprehensive development.
The WB and IMF Parliamentary Network conference is being held in Baku on May 23-24.
The Parliamentary Network is an independent non-governmental organisation delivering a platform to more than 1500 parliamentarians from 140 countries for cooperation to increase transparency and enhance accountability in the development processes in their countries. The objective of the organisation is to enhance the role of parliamentarians and civil society.
The non-governmental organisation Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan is an organiser of the conference from the Azerbaijani side.
