Consumer deflation in Azerbaijan at 0.4 percent in May

In May, consumer prices and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan decreased by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month, according to the report by the State Statistics Committee posted on its official website on Tuesday.

In May, consumer prices and tariffs for services in Azerbaijan decreased by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month, according to the report by the State Statistics Committee posted on its official website on Tuesday.

During the month, food prices fell by 0.9 percent, whereas non-food products as well as tariffs for paid services rendered to the population increased in price by 0.1 percent.

In the past month, the prices for food products such as flour, buckwheat, beef, lamb, chicken, fresh fish, milk, cream cheese, fat cottage cheese, eggs, butter, vegetable oil, lemons, bananas, plums, strawberries, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, garlic, sugar and granulated sugar decreased.

During the month, an increase was observed in the prices for sour cream, corn oil, apples, pears, greens, beets, carrots and onions.

Among non-food products, decrease in prices in May was observed for clothing. Construction materials, including paint, parquet lacquer and cement board also fell in price.

Prices for shoes, window glass, brick and furniture increased.

In the last month, tariffs for passenger transportation by rail decreased and international air transportation became more expensive.
