The volume of transit automobile transportation has almost doubled in Turkmenistan during the last five years, Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development of the country stated in its analytic material.

According to these data, about 200 thousand vehicles cross the border of Turkmenistan every year, and 97 percent of them are trucks.

Over three quarters of the total number of hauliers are domestic ones.

The material emphasizes that one of significant event of the year was commissioning of a new road bridge Turkmenabat-Farab (Lebap province, south-east of the country), replacing an obsolete pontoon bridge. The intensity of traffic in this area is now about 2.5 million tons per year.

"As a major transportation link in the Eurasian geopolitical space, the new road bridge meets all the necessary engineering and technical conditions," the information says. Its length is 1,415 meters, the width - 11.5 meters.

Large-capacity trucks from Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia and Kazakhstan, transiting through Turkmenistan, pass through it round the clock.
