The volume of foreign trade operations increased by 2.19 percent in January-May 2013 compared to the same period of last year, the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee said today.

Among Azerbaijan's foreign trade partners during this period were 135 countries from around the world.

According to the report, the total volume of Azerbaijan's trade turnover amounted to $14.73 billion. Foreign trade operations formed a surplus to the amount of $6 billion.

According to the report, some 4,344 physical and legal entities, including 2,864 legal entities and 1,480 physical entities were involved in the country's foreign economic activity during this period.

The export operations were carried out to the amount of $10.37 billion in January-May, or 3.44 percent less compared to the same period in 2012.

The share of the public sector in exports totaled $9.78 billion (94.31 percent), private - $520.74 million (5 percent) and the share of physical entities - $60.72 million (0.6 percent).
Imports amounted to $4.36 billion in January-May, which is 18.64 percent more than the same period in 2012.

The share of the public sector in import operations amounted to $1.42 billion (32.57 percent), private sector - $2.72 billion (62.34 percent) and physical entities - $225.94 million (5.18 percent).

Azerbaijan exported 1,380 goods and imported 5,164 goods in January-May.
