Some 849 facts of illegal drinking water usage were recorded as a result of supervision activities held by Azersu OJSC (national water operator) in January-June of 2013, the company's report, released on its official website, said.
According to the report, the damage inflicted to Azersu as a result of illegal drinking water usage is estimated at 2.4 million manats. The measures taken against those who are responsible for illegal water usage gave opportunity to provide 933,000 manats of repayment from this sum.
According to the report, 194 facts of illegal water usage were recorded in Azerbaijan only in June. Some 168 from these were recorded in Baku and remaining 26 - in regions. As a result, the Azersu OJSC got a damage estimated at 2,796,000 manats, 2,103,000 of which have already been repaid.
"The calculations show that, in many cases, the illegal users of water are the objects which use it in large amounts, namely, restaurants, baths, car washing objects and other enterprises. In separate cases such consumers illegally connect to the line bypassing the installed water smart counters. In the case of recording such facts, the water supply is immediately suspended and the violators are demanded to repay the damage, the report of Azersu OJSC said.
