Over 20 per cent of Azerbaijan’s Central Bank’s reserves stored in securities

Some $2.75 billion or 21.83 per cent of total foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) were placed in securities in the first half of 2013, the CBA's statistics report said today.

For comparison, some $3.64 billion of the CBA total foreign exchange reserves were placed in securities during the same period of 2012.

According to the report, some $9.27 billion are on the accounts of other central banks, Bank for International Settlements, International Monetary Fund (IMF). They were increased by 38.15 per cent compared to the same period of 2012 and the specific weight in a total volume of the CBA's assets hit 73.65 per cent.

The total volume of the CBA's foreign exchange reserves hit $12.58 billion in January-June 2013 increasing by 15.38 per cent compared to the same period of 2012. The CBA's reserves, stored in foreign currency, constitute $12.35 billion as of late June increasing by 15.76 per cent compared to the same period of 2012 (this index hit $10.67 billion during the specified period).

The official exchange rate for July 17 is 0.7844 AZN/USD.
