Construction of longest conveyor belt in CIS launched in Uzbekistan

The West Ural Machine Building Enterprise (ZUMK Russia) has started to build a 33 kilometer long conveyor belt for Dehkanabad Potash Fertilizer Plant in Uzbekistan, a representative of the State Joint-Stock Company (SJC) "Uzhimprom" told Trend.

According to an agency interlocutor, the construction of the $43 million conveyor belt, the longest conveyor belt in the CIS is part of an expansion project of the Dehkanabad Potash Fertilizer Plant. The conveyor belt will merge the raw base of the plant, the Tagansky field of potash salts with the processing complex. The conveyor belt will move an estimated at 2.1 million tons per year.

Currently, the transportation of ore to the plant from the mining complex is carried out with dump trucks.

The conveyor belt will be built by the Russian company "Radelli" (it is included in "Severstal hardware" enterprises' group). The delivery of the belts' first section with 430 tons in volume and 22 kilometers length is expected from October to December of the current year. The set of the first part of deliveries will include bearing ropes 60 and 51 mm in diameter, considered for the first two from the six participants of the rope road, as well as tension ropes with 78 mm diameter.

Construction of the conveyor is planned to be completed in 2014 at the same time as the second launch of the Dehkanabad Potash Fertilizer Plant. The $123.4 million Dehkanabad Potash Fertilizer Plant was commissioned in 2010. The plant's capacity is estimated at 200,000 tons per year.

The second stage of Potash Fertilizer Plant, which will have a capacity of 400,000 tons per year was launched in 2011. The cost of the second stage is $254.5 million.

The general contractors of the first and second stage of construction are ZUMK and Chinese Citic Pacific Ltd. the financing of the project is implemented at Uzbekistan's Reconstruction and Development Fund's expenses estimated at $61.6 million, Chinese "Export-import Bank" -$41.7 million and own funds of "Uzximprom".
