Uzbek insurance companies increase collection of premiums 1.4-fold in first half-year

Insurance companies of Uzbekistan increased the collection of premiums by 43.8 percent to 191.189 billion soum in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Finance reported.

This includes the premiums for voluntary insurance at 137.657 billion soum (a 51.4 percent increase) and for compulsory insurance - 53.532 billion soum (a 27.2 percent increase).

30.824 billion soum was collected on compulsory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners (a 21.3 percent increase) and 14,266 billion soum - on mandatory insurance of civil liability of the employer (an increase of 24 percent ).

The five leading companies to raise premiums in the first half of 2013 included State Joint-Stock Insurance Company Uzagrosugurta - 35.221 billion soum (up 47.2 percent), the National Export-Import Insurance Company UzbekInvest - 29.503 billion soum (up 29.1 percent), SACC Kafolat - 16.448 billion soum (up 44.8 percent), Asia insurans JSC - 15.954 billion soum (up 27.2 percent), Alfa Invest CJSC - 12.553 billion soum (a 2.1-fold increase).

Aggregate payments of Uzbek insurers in January - June increased by 72.8 percent to 40.771 billion soum. Payments for voluntary insurance increased by 93.2 percent to 31.645 billion soum, for compulsory insurance - by 26.6 percent to 9,126 billion soum. Of the total amount of payments, insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners accounted for 3.756 billion soum (up 18.3 percent), while mandatory insurance of civil liability of the employer amounted to 3.745 billion soum (up 30.4 percent).

The largest volume of payments was made by the National Export-Import Insurance Company UzbekInvest - 21.242 billion soum (a 6.9-fold increase compared to the same period in 2012), Uzagrosugurta - 3,441 billion soum (down 21 percent), Kafolat - 2.942 billion soum (up 2.6 times), UzbekInvest hayot, specializing in life insurance - 2.250 billion soum (up 9.9 percent), Capital Sugurta JSC - 1.536 million soum (a 1.4 fold increase).

The number of insurance contracts grew by 6.9 percent to 5.953 million, of which 4.347 million (a 3.6 percent rise) are concluded on voluntary insurance, 1.606 million (up 17 percent) - on compulsory insurance. Insurance companies have signed 1.56 million on compulsory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners (up 16.9 percent) and 42,849 contracts on mandatory insurance of civil liability of the employer (an increase of 1.2 times).

According to the Ministry of Finance, there were 34 insurance companies in Uzbekistan in the first half of 2013 with a total registered capital of 293.654 billion soum by July 1 this year.

In 2012, Uzbek insurers increased the collection of premiums by 34.8 percent to 285.886 billion soum compared to 2011, while the volume of payments increased by 3.4 percent to 46.006 billion soum.
