Iran has just started tapping the phase 12 of its South Pars gas field and it is predicted that some 500 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas will be extracted per day from the phase 12 by September 22, ISNA reported.

The first onshore platform of the phase 12 will come on stream by November 21 and it is planned to produce 1000 million cubic feet of gas per day.

The Phase 12 of the South Pars gas field is projected to have an output of 84 million cubic meters of natural gas, 120,000 barrels of condensates and 750 tons of sulfur on a daily basis, IRNA quoted the project manager of phase 12 Masoud Rahbari as saying.

Some $7.746 billion of credit has been allocated to the development of phase 12, he said, adding that the project has progressed by 90 percent.

In April, National Iranian Oil Company managing director Ahmad Qalehbani said that three phases of the South Pars gas field will come on stream in the current Iranian calendar year, which will boost the country's natural gas production capacity by 150 million cubic meters per day.

The phases 12, 15, and 16 will be tapped in the current year, ISNA quoted him as saying.

Iran is currently producing 300 million cubic meters per day of gas from the South Pars.

The South Pars gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, i.e. North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.

The Iranian gas field, which is divided into 29 phases, contains 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, about eight percent of the world's reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of LNG resources.
