Turkish banks were attracted to the financing of a third bridge over the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, Hürriyet newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, around $2.3 billion of the funds necessary for the bridge construction attracted the following banks: Garantibank, Türkiye Halk Bankası A.Ş., İş Bankası A.Ş., Türkiye Vakıflar Bankası, Ziraat Bankası A.Ş.and Yapı ve Kredi Bankası A.Ş.

The construction of the bridge which will be called 'Yavuz Sultan Selim', is planned to be completed by 2015 and will be put into operation in the same year.

Earlier the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Shipping and Communications stated that the third bridge over the Bosporus will run to 10 lanes, including two railway lines.

The service life of the bridge is estimated to be 10 years. Its construction will contribute towards fuel savings of $1.4 billion.
