Chinese company to build basalt fibre production plant in Uzbekistan

Uzhimprom State Joint Stock Company and China's Sichuan Aerospase Tuoxin Basalt Co. signed a protocol of intent to jointly build a plant for the production of continuous basalt fibre worth about $40 million, an Uzhimprom representative told Trend today.

The enterprise's design capacity to be established in the Jizzak special industrial zone will reach 3000 tons of basalt fibre a year.

The interlocutor added that it is planned to complete the feasibility study by late 2013 to begin constructing the plant in the first half of 2014.

The project is planned to be financed through direct investments of the Chinese company and Uzbek bank loans.

The Jizzak special industrial zone was established upon the Uzbek President's decree. The term of the zone's activity located in Jizzakh region, is 30 years with a possibility of a further extension. There will be a special tax system and customs benefits to be delivered for a period of between three to seven years depending on the amount of investments in the territory of the special industrial zone.

Jizzak will also have a branch in the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan.

It was previously reported that besides the Jizzak special industrial zone, there are Navoi free industrial and economic zone (Navoi region), established in 2008 and Angren (Tashkent region), established in 2012 in Uzbekistan.
