Some 183 million litres of gasoline and diesel were consumed in Iran in the final week of the sixth calendar month of Shahrivar (Sept. 15-22), the Mehr News Agency reported.

Despite the high consumption of the two fuels, Iranian officials have announced that the country's reserves are sufficient.

According to the report, around 3.3 million litres of premium gasoline were consumed per day during the period.

Meanwhile the media recently reported that Iran will import eight to 10 million litres of premium gasoline from India.

The Iranian oil minister had said that the country needs to import premium gasoline for increasing the octane number of domestically produced gasoline.

India will export gasoline to Iran in lieu for importing crude oil.

Early in August Iranian media outlets said that Iran may barter crude oil with gasoline in September to stabilise the country's strategic gasoline reserves.

Iran needs to import gasoline to meet its domestic demand, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said.

Some 1.119 billion litres of gasoline were consumed per day in Iran in the first half of Shahrivar (August 23-September 6), the Tasnim News Agency reported.

Iran's average gasoline consumption stood at around 71.6 million litres per day in the previous Iranian calendar year, the ISNA News Agency reported.
