In the second quarter of 2013, Georgia's balance of payments deficit amounted to $ 225.1 million, or 5.7 percent of country's GDP, which is 51.4 percent less compared with the same period last year, the National Bank of Georgia told Trend on Tuesday.

According to the National Bank of Georgia, compared with the second quarter of 2012, exports of goods increased by $106.9 million (increase of 12.1 percent), while imports decreased by $127.3 million (decrease of 6.5 percent), resulting in a decrease in the balance of trade deficit to $ 848.7 million (1.4 billion lari).

The balance of services for the reporting period was posititve, amounting to $344 million (567.8 million lari). Exports of services amounted to $725.7 million, which is by 21.6 percent more compared to the same period last year, imports - $381.7 million, which is 6.6 percent more compared to the same period last year.

Of trade in services, tourist services had the highest positive balance ($355.1 million), which is 32.8 percent more than in the second quarter of 2012.

The balance of income for the reporting period amounted to $93.2 million.
Foreign direct investment in Georgia for the reporting period amounted to $195.5 million
