Iran seizes 343 smuggled trucks in Chabahar Port

Iran has seized 343 smuggled trucks in southeastern Chabahar Port, the Mehr News Agency quoted deputy head of the headquarters for combating smuggled goods, Mehdi Abooee, as saying.

The trucks had been illegally transited from Bazargan, in the northwest of the country, to Chabahar, in the southeast, he added.

He also said that 140 cars have been illegally imported via Abou Mousa Island, and 267 cars have been smuggled into the country via Shahid Bahonar port.

In August, the Mehr News Agency quoted Abooee as saying Some 4.8 trillion rials (about $190 million based on the U.S. dollar official exchange rate of 24,800 rials) worth of goods and forex smuggling cases has been explored in Iran.

Some 23,000 files have been opened so far in this regard, of which 10,000 have been investigated, he said.

In July, IRNA quoted Iranian deputy industry minister Mohammad-Sadeq Mofatteh as saying that smuggling in Iran ruins 200,000 job opportunities in Iran annually.

He put the annual smuggling of goods in the country at $14 billion, saying that each job opportunity will be created through $70,000 investment.
