Turkmenistan harvests over half of planned cotton volume

Turkmenistan’s cotton growers delivered over 50 per cent of the planned cotton volume worth 1.05 million tons since late August.

Turkmenistan's cotton growers delivered over 50 per cent of the planned cotton volume worth 1.05 million tons since late August, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Tuesday.

"The work on mass harvesting of cotton continues in the country's cotton fields covering some half a million hectares of area," the newspaper said.

According to the newspaper, the workers from Bereket district of Balkan province, Takhtabazar district of Mary province, as well as three districts of Lebap province coped with the contractual obligations. They include Halac (22,110 tons - 72.49 per cent), Beyik Turkmenbashi (7,681 tons - 67.38 per cent) and Hodzhambaz (13,383 tons - 62.25 per cent).

Defoliation is going on everywhere in Turkmenistan. Over 9,000 units of various agricultural machinery - cotton harvesters, trucks, tractors and trailers the service and maintenance of which are carried out around the clock, work in an uninterrupted regime.

The work of some 159 procurement stations and 36 ginning factories of the country has been organized.

Ashgabat prepares for the international exhibition-fair of Turkmenistan's cotton products which will be held onNovember 23-24, 2013.. The organizers of the event are the State Concern "Turkmenpagta" ("Turkmencotton"), the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.
