Sowing of wheat ends in Turkmenistan

Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported today that the sowing of 860,000 hectares of wheat has been completed.

"697,540 hectares, or more than 80 percent of the planned volume of land has been sowed," the article said.

According to the newspaper, around 3,500 tractors and other pieces of agricultural machinery made in the U.S, Germany and Belarus were used.

Sowing started in all Turkmen regions in mid-August 2013. More than 157,000 seeds have been sown. The sowing campaign was scheduled for completion in late October.

Grain growers must collect 1.6 million tons of wheat in Turkmenistan in 2014.
More than 1.2 million tons of wheat were harvested in 2012. More than 1.3 million tons were collected in 2011 despite a drought.

Turkmengallaonumleri Association was allowed to sell the surplus volume of the harvest in excess of domestic requirements to foreign markets.
