Iran Industry, Mine, and Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh called for the expansion of economic ties with Belarus.

He made the call during his meeting with the deputy foreign minister of Belarus, the IRIB News Agency reported.

"The two countries' trade value is currently less than 100 million dollars which is not satisfactory," Nematzadeh said.

"Iran's trade balance with Belarus is currently negative," he added.

The Belarusian official for his part condemned the sanctions imposed on Iran, stressing that Minsk seeks to boost ties with Tehran.

Iran's ambassador to Belarus had underscored the importance of enhancing economic relations between Tehran and Minsk in June.

"Economic cooperation between Iran and Belarus is beneficial to both countries and incorporates mutual interests," said Mohammad-Reza Sabouri at a Monday meeting with Kanstancin Sumar, regional governor of Brest province in southwestern Belarus.
