Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 31 /Trend E. Ismailov/

The contractor for the construction of the Masalli-Astara highway's third section will be determined by late 2013, a source at Azeryolservis JSC of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport told Trend on Thursday.

According to him, the works within the construction of the sections A and B are on-going and the tender procedure for selection of a contractor for construction of section C is being completed.

"It is planned to sign a contract with the tender's winner by the end of this year," the source said.

According to him, the process of building the Masalli-Astara highway is planned to be completed by 2017.

Construction of the highway's first section (A) to a length of 22.15 kilometres is carried out by the Azerinshaatservis Company. The Turkish Özgün Yapı Company is the contractor of the B section's construction.

Section B runs from the mark of 22.15 kilometres up till the mark of 41.5 kilometres. The contractor will build a 19.35 kilometre long two-lane road, 10 bridges, two intersections, two passages, four recreation zones and a drainage system.

Section C running to a length of 19.9 kilometres covers a distance from the 41.5 kilometre mark to the 61.4 km mark of the Masalli-Astara highway.

Aside from the roadway, it is necessary to construct two passages, eight bridges, four recreation zones, drainage systems and other facilities.

This road project is being implemented with the loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Azerbaijani government.

The ADB allocated a $200 million loan for the construction of the first section.

Funding of works on the other two sections will be carried out in line with an agreement signed on July 27, 2012, in Baku. The agreement presupposes allocation of a $200 million loan from the first Multi-tranche Financing Facility (MFF) programme for the highway network worth $500 million.
